Set out a clear plan and utilise the BLS marketing and promotional material.
2. Pick a Date & Venue
Select a convenient date and secure a location, community halls, school gyms, or church spaces work well.
3. Spread the Word Early
Promote through posters, social media, local newsletters, and word of mouth. Encourage people to donate items in advance.
4. Collect Donations
Ask for good-quality, clean items, books, clothes, toys, homeware, and small electronics. Arrange drop-off points.
5. Organise & Sort Items
Group donations into categories and price them clearly. Keep prices affordable to encourage more sales.
6. Recruit Volunteers
Get helpers for setting up, manning stalls, handling money, and tidying up afterwards.
7. Add Extra Attractions
Consider a raffle, bake sale, or tea/coffee corner to boost funds and create a friendly atmosphere.
8. Prepare a Float & Payment Options
Have change ready and, if possible, offer card or mobile payment for convenience.
9. Run the Event
Welcome visitors warmly, keep stalls tidy, and make sure prices are visible. Encourage browsing and upselling.
10. Thank & Share Results
After the event, thank donors, volunteers, and attendees. Share how much was raised and how it will help the charity.
