Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are adaptive and inclusive sports?

Adaptive sports are activities modified to meet the needs of people with disabilities or injuries, using specialised equipment or rule adjustments. Inclusive sports are designed so that people of all abilities can participate together, promoting equality and shared experiences.

2. Who can take part in your programmes?

Our activities are open to current and former emergency service, volunteer service personnel, armed forces personnel, and their families in the UK who are sick, injured, or living with a disability, including physical, sensory, and hidden conditions. We also welcome all able bodied personnel past and present to get involved for a fully inclusive experience.

3. Do I need previous sports experience?

Not at all. We welcome complete beginners as well as seasoned athletes. Our coaches adapt sessions to your ability, confidence, and goals.

4. What types of sports do you offer?

We run a variety of activities such as wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, adaptive cycling, athletics, archery, and inclusive leisure activities. The exact programme may vary by location and season.

5. How do I register for an activity?

You can sign up via our website or by contacting our support team. We’ll discuss your needs, interests, and any adjustments required before your first session.

6. Is specialist equipment provided?

Yes, we provide adaptive equipment where needed. If you already have your own, you’re welcome to bring it along.

7. Are the facilities accessible?

We partner with venues that meet accessibility standards, including step-free access, accessible changing rooms, and parking. If you have specific requirements, let us know in advance.

8. Can family or friends join in?

Absolutely. Many of our sessions are open to family members and carers, as we believe in the power of shared activity and support networks.

9. Is there a cost to participate?

Many of our sessions are free or heavily subsidised thanks to donations and grants. We’ll confirm any costs before you book.

10. What if I’m nervous about joining?

That’s completely normal. Our team understands the challenges of recovery and change. We’ll introduce you gradually, match you with a buddy if you’d like, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way.

11. How do adaptive sports help recovery?

They can improve physical strength, mobility, and coordination, while also boosting confidence, mental wellbeing, and social connection, all vital for recovery and resilience.

12. How can I support the Blue Light Sports Foundation?

You can volunteer, fundraise, or donate. Every contribution helps us provide more opportunities for the blue light community to stay active and connected.
