Sports: Wheelchair Rugby

“I first got involved with wheelchair rugby through the Blue Light Sports Foundation after a life-changing injury left me searching for a way to stay active and connected. I’d always loved team sports, but I wasn’t sure if I’d ever find that same sense of camaraderie again. From my very first training session, I was welcomed with open arms, not just as a player, but as part of a family.

Wheelchair rugby has given me so much more than fitness. It’s rebuilt my confidence, pushed me to challenge my limits, and reminded me of the joy of competition. The coaches are incredibly supportive, tailoring sessions so everyone can participate, no matter their ability level. The team spirit is infectious, we celebrate each other’s wins, pick each other up after setbacks, and share plenty of laughs along the way.

I recommend Blue Light Sports Foundation to anyone looking for more than just a sport. Whether you’re seeking physical activity, mental resilience, or a community that truly understands and supports you, this is the place. It’s not just about playing rugby, it’s about rediscovering what you’re capable of and having a great time doing it.”

Sports: Multiple

"I’m proud to be part of the Blue Light Sports Foundation. Sport has always been a big part of my life, but after sustaining an injury that changed the way I move, I discovered the world of adaptive sports, and it’s been life-changing.

I now take part in multiple adaptive sports, from wheelchair basketball to table tennis and sitting volleyball. Each sport challenges me in different ways, keeping my body active and my mind sharp. I travel to events all over the UK, not just to compete, but to connect with others who share the same passion and determination. The camaraderie is incredible, we cheer each other on, celebrate every achievement, and learn from every setback.

For me, sport is more than competition. It’s a vital part of my health and well-being. Physically, it helps me stay strong, improve my mobility, and manage pain. Mentally, it gives me focus, purpose, and a sense of achievement that carries into every part of my life. Being active has boosted my confidence and reminded me that limitations don’t define me, my mindset does.

This has given me opportunities I never imagined possible. I’ve been able to push my boundaries, meet inspiring people, and show others that adaptive sport is for everyone. Every event I attend is a reminder that movement is medicine, and that the human spirit is stronger than any obstacle."

Sports: Wheelchair Basketball

"I never imagined my life would take such a turn. For as long as I can remember, sport was my identity. I had the privilege of competing at a professional level, pushing my body and mind to their limits. But everything changed during my service in the armed forces. A life‑changing injury ended not only my military career but also my dreams of continuing in professional sport.

The months that followed were some of the hardest I’ve ever faced. I felt lost, disconnected, and unsure of who I was without the game I loved. Rehabilitation was gruelling, but it taught me resilience in a way I’d never known before. I realised that while my body had changed, my passion for sport and teamwork hadn’t.

That’s when I discovered the Blue Light Sports Foundation. They welcomed me without hesitation, understanding the unique challenges faced by those from the armed forces and emergency services. Through them, I found my way back onto the court, this time in the BWB Inspire a Generation Basketball League.

Basketball has given me more than just competition; it’s given me a community. I’ve met incredible people who inspire me daily, each with their own story of perseverance. Every game reminds me that while one chapter of my life closed, another opened, one filled with purpose, camaraderie, and the joy of playing again.

I’m proud to wear my team colours, not just for the sport, but for the journey that brought me here."
