2027 Wheelchair Rugby 5s
WR5s Blue Light League
Represent Your Region. Find Your Team. Make History.
In 2027, sick, injured and disabled members of the blue light, emergency services and armed forces communities will come together for an exciting new competition: the Wheelchair Rugby 5s (WR5s) Blue Light League.
Regional Teams will compete for the honour of becoming the first-ever Blue Light WR5s Champions, but this league is about much more than winning.
It is about bringing people together through sport, rebuilding connections, developing confidence and creating the camaraderie that can be so important when illness, injury or disability changes your circumstances.
Whether you are an experienced wheelchair rugby player or looking for a new sporting challenge, the Blue Light League offers an opportunity to become part of a team and a wider community with shared experiences.
More Than a Competition
Sport can provide a reason to get active, reconnect with others and rediscover the enjoyment of being part of a team.
The Blue Light WR5s League has been created around those social benefits. Players will have opportunities to meet people from across the blue light and armed forces communities, build friendships, develop new skills and enjoy the sense of purpose that comes from training, competing and representing their region.
For some, it will be about competition. For others, it may be about confidence, wellbeing, friendship or simply finding somewhere they belong.
Whatever your motivation, there is a place for you in the team.
A Truly National Competition
The league will be supported by the National Governing Body, Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR), alongside wheelchair rugby community clubs across the country.
Regional Teams will come together twice each year at national league events, bringing players from across the UK together for competitive wheelchair rugby and an important shared social experience.
Teams will compete against every other team within their division through home and away fixtures, with results determining who will ultimately be crowned Blue Light WR5s Champions.
Every match matters. Every player contributes. Every region has something to play for.
Who Can Take Part?
The Blue Light WR5s League has been designed to recognise not only those who serve, but the families and communities that stand alongside them.
Participation is open to eligible sick, injured and disabled players with a connection to the:
Blue light community
Emergency services
Armed forces
That connection may be direct or indirect through immediate family, extending one generation in either direction.
To participate in the competition, players must also:
- Hold a current Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) membership
- Be a full member of Blue Light Sports Foundation
- Meet the competition's player eligibility requirements
Find That Team Feeling Again
Illness, injury and disability can change many things, but they do not have to mean leaving teamwork, competition or belonging behind.
The Blue Light WR5s League is an opportunity to pull on your regional colours, compete alongside people who understand the community you come from and discover what adaptive sport can offer.
You can challenge yourself on court, celebrate victories together and build friendships that continue long after the final whistle.
And in 2027, you could be part of the team that makes history.
